What do the sending-domain statuses mean?
Reference for the domain header, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC statuses shown in ColdMerge.
2 min read
The sending-domain page shows one overall status and separate SPF, DKIM, and DMARC results.
Overall status
Section titled “Overall status”| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Healthy | All three signals passed and no policy is weak |
| Needs attention | At least one signal did not pass; the header confirms that the page itself does not block sending |
| Weak policy | SPF or DMARC passes but uses a permissive policy |
| Unverified | ColdMerge could not yet confirm the signals; select Re-check now |
Signal status
Section titled “Signal status”| Status | Where it appears | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Passing | SPF, DKIM, or DMARC | The signal checked out |
| Not found | SPF | No SPF record was found |
| Not found | DMARC | The expected record did not pass the DNS check |
| Multiple records | SPF | More than one SPF record was found; keep one |
| Google not authorized | SPF | The existing SPF record does not authorize Google |
| Needs review | SPF | Re-check for a current diagnostic before changing DNS |
| Not aligned | DKIM | Mail is signed by Google rather than the sending domain |
| Weak policy | SPF or DMARC | The record is valid but permissive |
| Couldn’t check | Any signal | ColdMerge could not read a result; this is not a failure |

The numbered dots in this screenshot
- SPF is passing in this example.
- DKIM needs attention; the card explains the next steps.
- DMARC could not be checked yet.
- Select Re-check now after updating DNS.
Where the result came from
Section titled “Where the result came from”| Label | Evidence used |
|---|---|
| Checked with a DNS lookup | The public DNS record |
| Confirmed by a probe send | Headers from a private message ColdMerge sent to a mailbox it controls |
| From Google Postmaster Tools | Google’s report for the domain |
| Not checked yet | No result is available |
A probe send is not sent to your contacts.
Which status can block a launch?
Section titled “Which status can block a launch?”Only an unaligned DKIM result confirmed by a probe send or Google Postmaster Tools can block campaign launch for that mailbox. Missing SPF, missing DMARC, weak policies, and unknown results are warnings.
See Troubleshoot your sending domain for the fix for each status.
