Campaigns & sequences
A campaign is one email sent to one list. A sequence is that campaign’s ordered follow-ups, which go out in the same Gmail thread, only to the people who have not replied.
You never build a sequence on its own in ColdMerge. The follow-up steps hang off the campaign that sends the first email.
The life of a campaign
Section titled “The life of a campaign”Every campaign moves through the same states. The status pill on the campaign list and on the campaign page always names the current one.
- Draft. You write the first email, pick the mailboxes and the list, and add follow-ups. Nothing can send. You can delete the campaign and nothing is lost.
- Review. You have opened the three-step launch wizard. ColdMerge has worked out who would be emailed and what would be skipped. Still nothing sends. You can go back to draft.
- Scheduled. You chose Start later. The audience is committed and the campaign is waiting for its start time and its sending window. Nothing has gone out yet.
- Sending. Mail is going out, paced inside the sending window and inside each mailbox’s daily budget.
- Paused. Nothing new is being handed to Gmail. A person pressed Pause, or ColdMerge stopped the campaign itself, or billing has lapsed. Anything already sent stays sent.
- Completed. Everyone who was going to be emailed has been.
- Cancelled. You stopped it for good. The people still queued are never emailed, and a cancelled campaign cannot be restarted.
Completed and cancelled are terminal. Everything else can still change in some way, and the exact rules are on Monitor and control a running campaign.
