Contacts, lists & imports

What happened during my import?

Read import progress, outcomes, skipped rows, stopped imports, and past imports.

2 min read

Open Contacts, then Imports. Select an import under Past imports to return to its current step or final results.

Status Meaning
Not applied Rows were read, but Apply import was not selected
Running Contacts are being written now
Finished Every row was handled
Stopped Processing ended before every row was reached

Not applied is not an error. Nothing has changed yet.

The Importing panel shows rows reached and a live outcome count. It is safe to leave. If the browser loses contact with ColdMerge, it says Can’t reach the server. Still trying. The import continues on the server.

Outcome Meaning
Added A new contact was created
Updated An existing contact received values from this row
Skipped: on your suppression list Nothing was written for this address
Skipped: not an address The email cell was invalid
Skipped: repeated later in the file A later row with the same address won

Outcomes with a zero count are not shown.

For repeated addresses, the last row in the file supplies the values. Earlier rows for that address are skipped, for both contact and suppression imports.

When a Contacts import finishes, Continue with your audience names its destination List. Select View List to inspect its members. If the List has usable Contacts, select Create Campaign to open a new draft with that List selected. If the List was archived after mapping, open it and select Bring back into use before creating a Campaign. An undone import or a List with no usable Contacts does not offer this Campaign action.

  1. Open the finished import.
  2. In Skipped rows, select Download the N skipped rows.
  3. Correct those rows and import the downloaded file again.

The report is available for 30 days from the original upload. After that the page says Skip report expired after 30 days. Counts remain available.

A stopped import keeps everything already written. Re-upload the source file to handle the remaining rows. Existing addresses update instead of duplicating.

There is no resume button after an applied import stops.

Past imports lists the source name, status, type, and start time. Select Status, Type, or Started to sort. The table is paged and remembers the rows-per-page choice.

A staged import expires 30 days after upload if you never apply it. ColdMerge releases the staged rows and marks it Stopped. No contacts were changed.
