Work with lists
A list is a named group of contacts, and a campaign is aimed at one list. Lists live under Contacts, then the Lists tab.

The table has four columns:
- Name
- Description, or “No description”
- Contacts, how many people are on it right now
- Health, covered further down this page
Search matches any part of a list’s name. Select a row, or the chevron at the end of it, to open the list.
Create a list
Section titled “Create a list”- Select New list.
- Type a Name. This is the only required field.
- Add a Description if it helps. It is optional.
- Select Create list.
Nothing is saved until you press the button, so abandoning the form leaves nothing behind. You land inside the new, empty list.
If the name is already taken, ColdMerge refuses and offers to open the list that holds the name. Two lists with the same name would make an import aimed at a list by name ambiguous, so names are kept unique.
You can also build a list out of a selection on the Contacts table. See find, add, and act on contacts.
Rename a list
Section titled “Rename a list”Open the list. Select the pencil next to the name at the top of the page, type the new name, and confirm. A name already in use is refused here in the same way, with the offer to open the list that holds it.
Change the description
Section titled “Change the description”Under the name is the description as a quiet line of text. Select it to open an editor in place, change the text, and save. Clearing the box removes the description rather than storing an empty one.
Add contacts to a list
Section titled “Add contacts to a list”Three routes lead onto a list:
- Add contacts on the list’s own page. Search your contacts and pick people. Anyone already on the list is shown but cannot be picked again.
- Import into this list on the list’s own page. This opens the import wizard with the destination already decided, so the mapping step tells you where these people are going rather than asking. See import contacts from a file.
- The Add to list… bulk action on the Contacts table.
To take one person off, select Remove on their row in the On this list table and confirm. Nobody is deleted; they just come off this list.

Read the Health column
Section titled “Read the Health column”Health tells you how much of a list has been checked for deliverability and what the checks came back with. Checking addresses costs verification credits and only ever runs when you ask for it. See replies, tracking and verification.
The pill shows a short word plus a “% verified” number:
| Pill | What it means |
|---|---|
| No contacts | The list is empty, so there is nothing to judge |
| Not verified | Nothing on this list has a usable checking result yet |
| Partly verified | Some of it has been checked, and the picture is mixed |
| Healthy | Enough of it has been checked, and most of it came back alive |
| Unhealthy | Enough of it has been checked, and too much of it came back bad |
| Verifying… 40% | A check is running right now on this list |
Hover the pill, or tap it on a phone, for the full breakdown: Alive, Risky, Dead, No answer, and Unverified.
A list that has never been checked also carries a Verify button. It opens the checking flow, which shows the cost before anything is spent. An archived list shows its pill but is never offered the button.
While a check is running, the table refreshes on its own until it settles. You do not need to reload.
Archive a list
Section titled “Archive a list”Archiving puts a list away without losing anything.
- Open the list.
- Select Archive this list.
An archived list is hidden from the pickers, takes no new contacts, and loses its Import into this list button. Its contacts stay exactly where they are, on every other list they belong to.
To find archived lists, select Show archived lists at the bottom of the Lists tab. Back to active lists returns you. The New list button is hidden while you are looking at the archived half.
To bring one back, open it and select Bring back into use.
Delete a list
Section titled “Delete a list”- Open the list.
- Select Delete list and confirm.
Deleting removes the grouping only. Every contact on it stays in your contacts and on their other lists. If a running campaign was aimed at the deleted list, no recipients or history are removed; the campaign simply stops picking up new people from it.
Archive when you might want the group back. Delete when the group itself was a mistake.
