How do I create my account?

This page covers the things you do with your ColdMerge login: sign up with Google or with an email and password, verify your email address, log in, and reset your password. All of these screens work on a phone.

The fastest way: continue with Google

Both cards carry a Google button: Sign up with Google on the sign-up card and Sign in with Google on the Welcome back card. One click does the whole job.

Choose the button, approve on Google’s page, and you land in the app already signed in, with your account and workspace set up. There is no verification email to wait for, because Google has already verified the address for you. Signing back in later is the same single click.

Three things worth knowing about the Google button:

• It only asks Google who you are. Signing in with Google grants ColdMerge your name and email address, nothing more. It is completely separate from connecting a Gmail mailbox for sending, which is its own step with its own Google consent screen, covered on the next page.
• It finds your existing account. If you first signed up with an email and password, choosing Google with that same address signs you into the account you already have. No second account is created.
• If ColdMerge is running with invitations turned on, the Invite code field must be filled in before the Google button will proceed, the same as a password sign-up. Leave it empty and the screen says “Enter your invite code to continue with Google.”

One refusal you might see: “An account with this email already exists. Log in with your email and password to continue.” This appears when an account with your Google address exists but its email was never verified. ColdMerge will not attach a Google identity to an unverified account, because that could hand your account to whoever created it. Log in with the password instead, and you are in.

Sign up with an email and password

Prefer not to use Google? The classic way works exactly as before.

1. Go to the ColdMerge app and open the sign-up card. If you see Welcome back, choose Create an account at the bottom of the card.
2. Fill in Name, Email, and Password. A strength meter sits next to the password field and moves as you type.
3. If ColdMerge is running with invitations turned on, an Invite code field appears as well, and it is required. If you do not see the field, you do not need a code.
4. Choose Sign up. The button reads Working… while it runs.

Verify your email address

Signing up does not log you in straight away. ColdMerge sends a verification link first, and the card swaps to Check your email.

1. Open the email and choose the link in it. You land on a page reading Email verified, and you are signed in. Choose Continue to your account.
2. If the email has not arrived after a minute, check your spam folder. You can also choose Resend email on the Check your email card. The button changes to Email sent once it has gone.

If the link has been sitting in your inbox too long, the page reads Verification link expired instead. Type your address into the field on that page and choose Resend email to get a fresh one.

Log in

1. Open the ColdMerge app. The Welcome back card is the login mode.
2. Enter your Email and Password, then choose Log in. Or choose Sign in with Google and skip the typing.

If you followed a link into the app before logging in, ColdMerge sends you back to that page once you are signed in.

Reset a password you forgot

1. On the Welcome back card, choose Forgot password?.
2. Enter your email address and choose Send reset link.
3. The card swaps to Check your email. The wording is deliberately vague about whether the address has an account, so nobody can use this form to discover who is a customer. If the address does have an account, the link is on its way.
4. Open the link. Enter New password and Confirm new password, then choose Set new password. Both fields have the strength meter, and ColdMerge tells you inline if the two do not match.
5. The page reads Password updated. Choose Continue to sign in.

If the reset link has expired, the page reads Reset link expired and offers Request a new link, which takes you back to the forgot-password form.

Changing your password or email address later

Once you are signed in, your password, your email address, and your active sessions live under Settings, in the Account page of the You group. That page is covered in Account & billing.
